Dave Arazmo

Dave Arazmo began playing the guitar at age 13. He practiced 8 to 9 hours a day and learned melodies by ear from listening to records and tapes even figuring out television themes like Sanford & Son, Night Rider, and The Rockford Files. Lately it's the Snickers commercial and Price is Right theme. Dave loves to record. Dave's influences are Van Halen, Randy Rhodes, Steve Morse, Yngwie, Albert Lee, Eric Johnson, and Al Dimeola, to name a few. Dave digs newer players like Johnny Hiland, the guys in A7X too.

Dave has been working as professional musician since 1988 and has played in a variety of musical acts from metal to a Doo-Wop Oldies band and a Touring Bee Gees tribute. Dave began teaching at age eighteen. In 1989 Dave took his band "Arazmo" on the road with Fantasma Productions. In 1994 and 1995 Dave won "Best Guitarist" in the Bay Area Music Awards. The Arazmo band released "Notice to Appear" a 15 song original cd in 1995. Good luck finding it on ebay.

In 1997, Dave won Guitar Wars and an autographed George Lynch guitar, sponsored by Gator's on the Pass, ESP guitars, and Seminole Music. Dave released "Control the Monster" an 11 original cd in 2000. In April 2004, Dave won at the Tampa Guitar Center in the "Guitarmageddon" contest. Dave continues his dedication to music by performing with his current act: Big Brother and as owner of Tampa Guitar School. Dave keeps students motivated and excited about music with a variety of musical examples and exercises with proper attention on technique and theory and by doing voice impersonations like Darth Vader and Austin Powers.

Dave teaches beginners to advanced rock, blues, funk, punk, metal, shred, country, alternative, acoustic, pop-dance, reggae, disco and hot jambalaya-flufftopia (original style) . Free Video Lessons

Brian Buchman

Brian Buchman is a classically trained guitarist who has a love for teaching the guitar. Brian holds a bachelors degree in guitar performance from Stetson University where he studied the guitar with Dr. Stephen Robinson. Brian also received a masters degree in guitar performance from Florida State University where he studied with Bruce Holzman.

Mr. Buchman has been teaching private guitar lessons for fifteen years in a variety of different styles including classic rock, hard rock, jazz, flamenco and classical. For the past five years Brian has been teaching several music classes at Brevard Community College including Music Theory, Sight Singing/Ear Training, and Guitar Class. Brian has also been teaching at Seminole Community College for the past two years where he also gave classes in Music Theory, Guitar and Guitar Ensemble. While teaching at these community colleges Brian maintained a private studio, teaching between 30 and 40 guitar lessons each week.

In addition to teaching Brian has won several Guitar competitions including first prize at the 2001 Columbus International Guitar Competition. In 2000 he was awarded a chair in the Guitar Foundation of America's U.S./Mexico Guitar Orchestra and performed at the convention in San Antonio.

While several of Brian's advanced students have auditioned and been accepted to the music programs at University of Central Florida, Florida State and Stetson University, Brian has extensive experience with beginning guitar students of all ages. From a classroom of fourth graders to the retiree who has always dreamed of picking up a guitar, Brian has taught them all.

Brian's rock influences include Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and Pink Floyd. On the classical side, Brian has taken guitar lessons with Pepe Romero, Elliot Fisk, Oscar Giglia, the Assad brothers, Roland Dyens, Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, and Scott Tennant. Whether you are a beginner who wants to be inspired or an advanced student looking to refine your playing and learn advanced right or left hand techniques, Brian always keeps the atmosphere fun and the focus on ENJOYING playing the guitar.

Rocky Torres

Understanding the difficulties involved with playing the guitar, and the fact that not everyone learns in the same way, Rocky focuses on developing the student's playing skills with simple yet challenging and fun exercises, as well as song excerpts - while always keeping each individual student's abilities in mind. Nine years of teaching experience, and studies in psychology have helped Rocky Torres incorporate the basic needs of encouragement and reinforcement into each and every one of his teaching sessions. His own two children constantly remind him to have fun with everything he does. Rocky will make a guitarist out of anyone interested in learning the skills of playing the greatest musical instrument of ALL TIME! Rocky can teach you songs by your favorite artists, and encourage you to perform with him or other musicians. If writing your own songs is your aspiration, Rocky will help you to develop your own creative abilities. Tim Brown

Tim is a very skilled player who has taught in the Bay Area for over 20 years. He teaches jazz, rock, classical and blues to advanced master level. He can and will teach you proper technique and theory to the depth you can understand... and beyond! While Tim can "shred" with the best of them, his personal tastes lean towards jazz. David James

David was recommended to TGS as one of renowned local instructor and college professor Joe Braccio's most gifted students. David is very good at getting students excited about music. David recently became a dad with a beautiful new daughter! He still finds time to practice classical and rock "shred" guitar for 2 - 3 hours a day. He also listens to blues, funk, and metal. His influences include Eric Johnson, Nuno Bettancourt, Andre Segovia, and Joe Walsh. David performs and records with his band in St. Petersburg. David is a favorite here and rarely has an opening on his schedule. If you can find one, book it fast.

Steve Savas

All the way from Seminole, Florida, Steve is a down to earth guy who plays locally in the band "My Enemy". His influences range from shred-rocker, Steve Vai to classical guitarist, John Williams. He teaches modern rock/ metal techniques and classical and bass. He graduated from Gibbs High in the Pinellas County Center for the Arts.

Josh Formanek

Joshua Formanek began playing guitar at age 11. He spent up to 6 hours a day rigorously learning every nuance of rock legends such as Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. He also greatly enjoyed rocking out to artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, and Rage Against The Machine. While in high school Josh joined the orchestra first playing cello, then moving to double bass. He also played in the concert band, but gained the most pleasure playing guitar in the jazz band. In 2004 he made the Kentucky All-State Jazz Band as well as winning the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. After high school Josh began attending Central Florida Community College where he performed with the jazz band, jazz combo, variations show band, concert band, and string ensemble.After graduating with his associates degree Josh began attending the University of South Florida where he is now working on his bachelor's degree in jazz studies. He performs various styles of music ranging from jazz to rock in both Ocala and Tampa, also working as a studio musician. He currently enjoys the music of John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Medeski Martin & Wood, but is open-minded and always searching for new sounds. Josh has two years of teaching private lessons under his belt and has taught students ranging from 6 years old to adults more than twice his age. His biggest concerns when teaching is that the student finds it fun and sounds good! Nearly any style of music may be covered ranging from classic rock, hard rock, punk, and metal to jazz, blues, reggae, country and folk. Various concepts may be covered as well, such as reading music, music theory, improvisation, and songwriting. Josh looks forward to helping you achieve your musical goals!.

Jimmie Rogers

Jimmie has been teaching and performing for 30 years. He also teaches voice. His client list ranges from garage band warriors to pro wrestlers. Jimmie is a versatile player who specializes in ear training. He teaches blues, rock, jazz and country styles. Jimmy teaches at our Tampa Palms location.

Adam Izzary

Adam Irizarry is a young guitarist who, even at the age of 18, has spent many years playing and studying the guitar. He got his first guitar at age eight along with two private lessons. He and his parents knew that the guitar would always be a big part of Adam's life and that still holds true. Adam has taken private music lessons from some of the Tampa area’s best instructors from the age of eight until he was fifteen. Studying classical, acoustic as well as electric guitar (his forte), Adam's love for the guitar has taken him all over the country.
Adam joined his first rock band at the age of eleven. Working with Radio Disney and other promoters he has performed at the SXSW (South by Southwest Musical Conference) held annually in Austin, Texas. He has preformed on the John Lennon Tour Bus in Los Angels for the NAMM show (National Association of Musical Merchants). Other performances include: Headlining at the USF Sun Dome. New York Yankees opening spring season game, Tamps Devil Rays opening day, Tampa Bay Lighting games at the St. Pete Times Forum, Guavaween,Florida State Fair (including media blitz party), Skippers Smoke House, Friday Extra Concert Series, Pot Bellies, UF Performing Arts Center, Tampa Bay Performance Arts Center. Tampa Museum of Art, playing for Mayor Pam Iorio . NBC's The Daytime Show (live performance), Tampa Bay's Media Talk and many, many other shows with the three rock bands that he has been in.
Adam won the 102.5FM rock radio station's "guitar shootout" contest, getting the most online votes with his performance at the age of 17 years old. Adam was contacted by and is currently working with the multi-platinum record producer Gary Corolla who has worked with NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Brittany Spears, and Aaron Carter. Adam shot a music video with one of Gary's bands recently and Adam also has a spotlight article in the new magazine Sorcha (an underground rock magazine for the bay area).
Adam is a 2008 graduate from Blake Performing Arts High School where he studied classical guitar for four years. Adam has taken AP Music theory and has been giving private guitar lessons for over a year. Adam is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in guitar and music theory.
Adam’s influences are Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Steve Vai, Slash, Jimmy Page, and others. Adam brings his experiences into the classroom with each student. Adam is dedicated to the guitar, whether it is performing, writing, teaching or learning.

Jose Valentino - Tampa Palms

Before reaching the age required to obtain a Florida driver's permit, Jose Valentino Ruiz, aka-Joe Ruiz, was playing flute with passion and dexterity. Jose Valentino was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, and lived with his family in Laurel, Maryland during the first eight years of his life prior to moving to Tampa, Florida. Frequent trips with his family to Puerto Rico infused fervor in his soul for his Hispanic heritage and excitement for Latin rhythms. Jose Valentino values his heritage and refers to Puerto Rico as a place where music is like water, it's a necessity. As a toddler, while visiting his grandparents, he was very impressed by some of the Island distinctive sounds, particularly: "el gallo" (roster) and "el coqui" (singing frog). No question that his young ear was detecting nature’s musical notes.

He began formal flute studies at age 8 with Dr. Kim McCormick, University of South Florida flute professor. Classical flute instruction received under her guidance established the grounds for his musical training and continues to be essential for his musical development.

By the summer of 2000 Jose began to explore Latin flute and improvisation in the music room his Dad had prepared in the garage. He spent many hours listening to some of the Latin flute masters, like Nestor Torres and David Valentine. Dad was a big influence in developing the ear and taste for Latin jazz. He would often help him by playing the bass while Jose attempted to improvise. He began to understand what the famous jazz musician Miles Davis meant: "Don’t play what’s there, play what's not there."

José enjoys jazz, classical, R&B, and contemporary music. As he clearly explains: "It was Mr. Robert Griffin who planted the seed of jazz in me". Mr. Griffin, jazz band director at Blake High School, not only instilled the ardor for jazz in Jose, he also directed him into doubling in the tenor saxophone. Furthermore, he introduced him to the music of the great jazz flute maestro, Mr. Hubert Laws. While attending a flute workshop at the University of Central Florida, Jose Valentino met Hubert Laws and still treasures his flute case with Mr. Laws' autograph and personal message. Mr. Laws described Jose's playing as one of passion and fire.

Jose Valentino graduated from Freedom High School in Tampa. His involvement in marching, concert, and jazz bands under the direction of Mrs. Christina Frye was a very rewarding experience. He has also studied jazz and saxophone with Valerie Gillespie (www.valeriegillespie.com) and plans to attend the University of South Florida in the fall.
In his first CD Jose merges his stunning technical skill with innate improvisational gifts. The array of flute-derived percussion effects in tandem with the melodic tone displays his Latin heritage along with his classical flute training. Trumpet virtuoso Arturo Sandoval (www.arturosandoval.com), master saxophonist Michael Brecker (www.michaelbrecker.com), and phenomenal bassist Brian Bromberg (www.brianbromberg.net) have been major influences in Jose Valentino's musical development. He also acknowledges the legacy and influence of jazz and contemporary flute maestros such as Hubert Laws (www.hubertlaws.com), Nestor Torres (www.nestortorres.com), Dave Valentin, Jim Walker, James Galloway, and others. These and other pioneers have set the path for the novel 21st century generation of jazz flutists, among which Jose Valentino excels.

Meghan Jones

Meghan is born and raised in St. Petersburg, FL where she attends St. Petersburg College and the University of South Florida pursuing a B.S. in Music Education set for graduation in Fall of 2008.
Meghan has had applied Classical Voice instruction for 4 years applied Piano instruction for 2 years and music theory also for 2 years.
Meghan studied Master Classes with Sherrill Milnes in June 2005 and 2006.
She was a member of the Gospel Choir & Praise Team at Without Walls Int. Church, Tampa, FL , the Musical Theater chorus in "Music Man" & "Oklahoma!" in St. Pete. The Little Theater, Largo Cultural Center .
She worked as an on staff Singer for St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, FL .
Meghan is young, hip and comes to DNA Studios with a wealth of knowledge about music and voice. She is eager to help students to find and/or develop their own voice.

Miles Neiffer

Miles began playing the piano at age four. He took eight years of lessons in the "Suzuki" method which inspired him to play anything he could find. As a drummer for the past 14 years, Miles has played in a variety of groups from country to jazz and metal. Miles has experimented with many instruments including the violin, harmonica, accordian, and he has played the guitar for ten years. He is a student at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa and currently plays in 2 bands. He keeps students motivated and inspired with lots of practical exercises and beats. He relates well to youth because he is youthful and hip to the current music "scene". Miles has a busy schedule, so if there's an open time available, book it! See video.

Victor Pons

Victor is a percussionist who also plays the drums. He teaches percussion/drumline at Bloomingdale High School since 2006. A young and well rounded musician, Victor connects well with his students by being current in the new styles while having been schooled in the classic techniques. He has a strong background in many styles of drum set (also tour, and recording experience), marimba, and marching percussion. Victor has a limited schedule availability, if you can find a lesson time open, book it!

Mark Gault

Mark attended Prince Georges College for an AA degree from Prince Georges College, is a member of the Maryland Teacher's Association of Greater Calvert and has more than 20 years experience as a professional drummer, including live performances and studio sessions with some of the most talented, popular acts in the Washington/Baltimore area. He has performed and recorded as a drummer and vocalist for Second Chance, Dr. Move, Mike Numera and the Rhythm Handlers, The Assassins, TNL Christian Band, and No Trace, and has hosted Live Blues Jam with Acme Blues members nominated for a 2007 WAMI award. Mark was educated at Oxon Hill Music Center in Maryland and has taught for 6 years and given thousands of lessons to students of all ages at in MD and Florida, in styles including new rock, Classic Rock. alternative, blues, punk, country, jazz, and marching band snare. Mark teaches on a full drum drum set with CD and ipod listening. The latest technology for playing in time to a metronome is also used. Teaching students of all ages.

We have combined guitar and theory class and made the classes longer which gives the teacher more time to help each student and gives the student more in class practice time. Brian Buchman makes learning fundamentals fun. Get a complete view of chords, rhythm, knowing the notes, proper techniques, understanding the instrument, along with cool exercises and melodies. You will be playing and sounding good quickly. Music theory is a something serious musicians understand. Teacher Brian Buchman will get you to understand the notes & how they relate,what are sharps and flats, key signatures, time signatures, and more. Brian keeps it fun, interesting and not too complicated!

In addition to the years spent in weekly guitar lessons with Bruce Holzman and Dr. Stephen Robinson, Brian has actively sought out instruction from the top names in classical guitar music. Brian has repeatedly performed in the master classes of, and taken guitar lessons with:
Pepe Romero, Eliot Fisk, Oscar Giglia, Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens, Leo Brouwer, Sergio and Odair Assad, Scott Tennant, Andrew York, Adam Holzman, and many, many more.

Between the years of 2003 and 2006 Brian taught an average of 70 (seventy) guitar lessons each week in addition to numerous classes in music theory, sight singing/ear training and group guitar.

Fall and Spring Semester : Rehearsed the SCC Guitar Ensemble and gave public performances each semester.

Summer 2005: Received full scholarship and performed at Stetson International Guitar Summer Workshop.

Fall semester 2004: Received grant from Florida Arts Council to bring Dr. Stephen Robinson to Brevard Community College for a concert and master class.

Summer 2003: Received full scholarship and performed at Stetson International Guitar Summer Workshop.

Spring semester 2003: Organized a four day classical guitar workshop for the local community. The event was sponsored by Brevard Community College. Activities included: Solo and ensemble concerts given by FSU doctoral students, a lecture on guitar construction given by local luthier Jay MacDonald, and a lecture on the history of the classical guitar repertoire given by myself.

Fall semester 2003: Brought Dr. Eladio Scharron (guitar professor at University of Central Florida) to Brevard Community College for a concert and a master class. Performed at the 2003 Columbus International Guitar Workshop, Columbus, GA.

Fall and Spring 2002: Spent the year living in Florence, Italy. Audited monthly guitar lessons given by Roland Dyens at Conservatoire International de Music de Paris. Lived in Granada, Spain for one month taking flamenco guitar lessons.

Fall semester 2001: First prize winner at the Columbus International Guitar festival.

Fall semester 2000: Awarded a chair in the Guitar Foundation of America’s U.S./Mexico guitar orchestra. Performance at the GFA festival in San Antonio, Texas.

Professional memberships
Co-founder and President of the Space Coast Guitar society, January 2005- August 2006. Duties include developing a charter for the organization. Planning a six month curriculum for our monthly meetings. Booking performances, directing an ensemble, and giving a fifty minute lecture/recital at each meeting.

We are now offering in home lessons for the guitar, bass, piano and voice on a limited schedule. This is for students who need us to come to them. 45 minute and hour lessons available. Tuition due monthly and our cancellation policy is the same.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

It is important to know that we will do our best to be flexible when we are able to.

The lesson time that you set up as a regular day and time is the time that your instructor sets aside for your lesson. That is the time slot that the tuition pays for. We do NOT guarantee a make-up time if you are unable to attend at that time. If you call no later than 48 hours prior to that regular scheduled lesson appointment time, our instructors have agreed to allow a make-up lesson (if available). Our teachers respect that you are on a schedule as well, so please advise us of your arrival when you are there on time for your lesson. Occasionally, lessons can run late. Q: What will you teach me that I can't learn on my own?

A: Great question! The short answer is that a professional music instructor will coach you on technique -- which is paramount (something a dvd can't do), keep you motivated and excited about music, expose you to many styles and teach you how to read music, tablature, to understand music theoryand more. Just like golf, investing and exercise, getting your information and technique tips from a pro is always the best choice in any situation. If you don't understand something, just ask!

Q: How much should I practice?

A: Obviously, the more you practice; the faster you will notice improvement.
On average, you should practice at least 20 minutes a day. Motivation to practice comes from the desire to play something well. Be patient with yourself!

Q: Do I need a book?

A: Probably. If so, your teacher will recommend one or two. We have several available
here or at Guitar Center. Keep all your materials neat and bring them for each lesson.

Q: If I haven't practiced, should I come in for my lesson?

A: Absolutely! You must keep your momentum and get back on track.

Q: When do I pay for the lessons?

A: On the last paid lesson for the month.

Q: How often are lessons?

A: Once a week at the same time, usually 30 minutes.

Q: If I don't like my teacher, should I switch to another?

A: While we hope that you like the instructor, sometimes there might be a better match with a different one. Teachers are not offended by this and actually encourage it if it helps you to learn and grow.

Q: Do you recommend thirty minutes or an hour lesson?

A: Most students can achieve enough direction and instruction in thirty minutes. More advanced players may gain more from an hour lesson.

Q: What is the cancellation policy?

A: You must inform us 48 Hours prior to the expected absence and we will offer you a make-up time if there's one available. In the event of travel, we can arrange to do the missed lesson before you leave or on the week of your return.

Q: Do I need an instrument?

A: Yes. You need something to practice on at home.
If you want a recommendation, ask.

Q: How long does it take to get good?

A: Exactly 7 months, 1 week, 3 days and 6.25 hours, Just Kidding!!! This is a tricky question because everyone's opinion of "good" is different. The more you practice, the faster you (and others) will notice improvement. It is important to remember that music is an art form, not a competition like golf. There are certain basics that one should learn and fully understand. Once that is achieved, more complicated material will be easier to comprehend. To actually play it will take practice, more for some and less for others.
